Research has shown that yoga is a well rounded practice that benefits both mind and body. Yoga can build muscle strength and flexibility. It can improve balance and respiration. Yoga invites calm and effectively helps to manage stress. Yoga is not a religion; yoga can compliment any (or no) religious practice. I am delighted to be able to teach gentle therapeutic yoga practices for mind-body health.

I am a trudger. What the heck does that mean? My favorite definition of TRUDGE = "walk with purpose" or to "walk deliberately with strong intention". All the styles of yoga I teach can help us to walk with purpose.

Gentle yoga is great for beginners and/or for experienced yogis just seeking a quieter, more mindful practice. Gentle yoga can be therapeutic for those recovering from injury, illness, or inactivity. Gentle stretches and postures build strength, improve range of motion/mobility, facilitate improved respiration, and release stress. Gentle yoga improves body awareness. To ensure safety, gentle yoga postures build from simple to more challenging, props and adaptations are common; building postures in this way allow all in the class to participate at a level appropriate for their body. No one is excluded. In gentle yoga, the focus is on honoring the body/mind. In gentle yoga, we seek to use yoga poses to fit our body rather than try to fit our body to the poses. Gentle yoga makes great sense. I even have students eighty+ year olds. Gentle yoga is ageless. Gentle yoga classes include the Slow Gentle Flow class for nervous system optimization as well as all the slower classes like mindful yoga, yoga Nidra, and restorative yoga. I teach one ageless level one class in which we stand up and work on a few extra strengthening poses but it is also appropriate for gentle students. Yoga is for every body.

- mindful/level one ageless yoga - is a gentle practice with meditative emphasis. No experience or skills are needed. Aimed for the unique needs of those in their 50s-80s.
- trudger yoga - is a unique gentle practice designed to meet the specialized needs of those in 12 step recovery programs (not to replace 12 step meetings) that may benefit from practicing tools & habits to address anxiety, depression, Spiritual growth and stress management. There are a few different styles of yoga for 12 steps; this approach is very gentle, restorative, mindful and appropriate for all. No experience or level of fitness required.
- restorative yoga is a quiet healing practice in which fewer poses are enjoyed for longer periods of time. It is designed for emotional & Spiritual support (particularly to help those with depression, anxiety, or chronic pain). Restorative can also help individuals turn inward in order to practice listening to the wisdom of the body. Restorative can be a type of yoga for some to return from injury as well. No experience or skills are needed.
- yoga nidra is a deep meditative practice known as yogic sleep. Nidra uses guided meditation to help students experience a deep relaxation while maintaining a state of inward alertness. The aim of Yoga Nidra is healing. Research has found it beneficial for a myriad of issues. Join us for some gentle movement followed by deep yogic sleep. Mary has studied with psychologist Richard Miller and follows the evidence-based structure of the iRest practice.
